🔫 JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 5 – THE LAST OATH
Full Plot Summary (Long Version)
ACT 1 — THE MAN WHO SHOULD’VE DIED
Though the world believes John Wick is dead after the events of Chapter 4, he secretly survives, buried under a false grave arranged by the Bowery King. Hidden in an underground safehouse, John tries to recover from his wounds, haunted by memories of Helen and the trail of bodies he left behind.
But peace never lasts.
The High Table detects unusual activity: assassins who once served John Wick vanish, and stolen archives point to Wick’s survival. A new villain steps forward:
LORD ALESSANDRO RAVENNA
A young, brilliant, and extremely cruel High Table enforcer. He believes John’s false death is a stain on the Table’s honor.
Ravenna issues a global decree:
“John Wick is alive. Bring me his head.”
Every assassin network begins hunting him again.
ACT 2 — A NEW WAR BEGINS
The Bowery King warns John that the High Table is preparing a purge unlike any before. Cities are placed under lockdown by assassin guilds, Continental hotels are monitored, and bounties skyrocket.
John escapes multiple ambushes across Tokyo, Berlin, and Paris. During one encounter, he reunites with:
- Akira — seeking revenge for her father’s death
- Caine — blind assassin, still alive but forced back into service
- A mysterious new ally: Nadia — a former High Table Archivist who defects after discovering Ravenna’s plan
Nadia reveals the terrifying secret:
The High Table possesses the Oath Ledger —
a document listing every blood oath, marker, and secret bond ever made.
Ravenna intends to erase all debts and reorganize the assassin world under his own rule. That means eliminating anyone connected to old markers — including John.
ACT 3 — THE HIDDEN TRUTH
John learns that Ravenna has possession of a forbidden artifact:
The First Marker
A blood oath signed centuries ago by the founders of the Table. Whoever controls it can rewrite the rules of the assassin world.
John, Caine, Akira, and Nadia infiltrate a High Table archive fortress under Rome. Inside, they discover files showing:
- Winston secretly helped fake John’s death
- The High Table plans to shut down all Continental sanctuaries
- A kill order for anyone who protects Wick
But Ravenna arrives with elite soldiers known as the Ivory Guard, initiating one of the series’ biggest shootouts.
Caine sacrifices himself to allow John and the others to escape. His final words to John:
“Buy yourself a life… even if it costs mine.”
John is devastated but becomes more determined.
ACT 4 — THE FALL OF THE TABLE
John learns Ravenna is hosting an emergency summit in an underground city beneath Venice — the birthplace of the High Table. There, he plans to use the First Marker to claim absolute power.
Winston meets John privately and reveals a final truth:
Helen’s death wasn’t random.
She was unknowingly targeted because John refused an old Table request years ago.
Winston hands John an ancient key — once belonging to John’s family — allowing him entry into the Venetian underworld.
THE FINAL BATTLE
John, Akira, and Nadia storm the underground citadel. Gunfights echo through marble corridors, canals, and burning atriums. Bodies fall by the dozens.
John eventually reaches Ravenna, who intends to bind John’s soul through the First Marker, forcing him to become the Table’s eternal killer.
John refuses.
A violent duel breaks out:
- Ravenna wields twin ritual daggers
- John fights with a broken katana, guns empty
- The underground city collapses as explosives detonate
John disarms Ravenna and uses the First Marker’s dagger to stab him through the heart.
Ravenna dies uttering:
“…you were never free.”
John tosses the First Marker into the flames, destroying centuries of tyranny.
ACT 5 — THE LAST OATH
With Ravenna dead, the High Table fractures. Chaos erupts worldwide among factions fighting for leadership.
Akira vows to rebuild the Osaka Continental.
Nadia disappears with Table secrets.
The Bowery King prepares to reshape the underground world.
John Wick, wounded and exhausted, walks alone to a quiet Venetian dock.
Winston finds him there.
WINSTON: “John… what do you want now?”
JOHN: “A life that isn’t theirs.”
For the first time, John Wick makes an oath written not in blood, but in words:
“I am done with killing.”
Winston nods.
John steps into a small boat and disappears into the morning mist.
FINAL SCENE — THE NEXT CHAPTER
A mysterious figure watches John leave from the shadows.
Their hand bears a symbol identical to the one on the First Marker.
“He thinks he ended it.”
“But his legacy has only begun.”
