Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023) is a fantasy adventure film inspired by the legendary tabletop role-playing game. The story follows a charming thief and his unlikely team of adventurers as they attempt to right a terrible wrong—while facing dark magic, betrayal, and an ancient evil.
The Beginning – A Thief with a Heart
The story centers on Edgin Darvis, a charismatic bard and former member of the Harpers (a noble order of protectors). After his wife is killed during a Red Wizard attack, Edgin turns to thievery to provide for his daughter, Kira.
He teams up with:
- Holga Kilgore – a fierce and loyal barbarian warrior.
- Forge Fitzwilliam – a smooth-talking con artist.
- Simon Aumar – a struggling sorcerer with hidden potential.
- Later, Doric – a shape-shifting druid who can transform into animals.
During a major heist, they steal a mysterious magical relic known as the Tablet of Reawakening, an ancient artifact capable of bringing the dead back to life. However, Forge betrays Edgin and Holga, framing them and escaping with the treasure.
Betrayal and a New Enemy
After spending years in prison, Edgin and Holga escape and discover that Forge has become a powerful lord in the city of Neverwinter. Worse still, he has taken custody of Kira and convinced her that Edgin abandoned her.
Forge is secretly working with Sofina, a Red Wizard of Thay. Sofina plans to use dark magic and the ancient Horn of Beckoning Death to transform the entire city’s population into undead soldiers, building an army for her sinister order.
Edgin realizes he must:
- Win back his daughter.
- Stop Forge and Sofina.
- Prevent a catastrophic magical disaster.
The Heist to Save the Realm
To stop Sofina, the group must steal a powerful magical helmet that can unlock Simon’s full sorcerer abilities. Their journey takes them through:
- A deadly magical vault.
- An underground labyrinth filled with traps.
- A chaotic arena battle featuring a massive, overweight dragon named Themberchaud.
Along the way, Simon gains confidence in his powers, Doric proves her strength and loyalty, and the team begins to function like a true adventuring party.
The Final Confrontation
Forge organizes grand games to distract the city while Sofina prepares her dark ritual. The team infiltrates the event using illusions and clever tricks.
As Sofina begins turning citizens into undead creatures, a massive battle erupts. Simon finally masters the powerful helmet, enabling him to counter Sofina’s dark magic.
In an emotional moment, Edgin chooses not to use the resurrection tablet on his late wife—but instead to save Holga, who is fatally wounded protecting Kira. This decision proves that Edgin has truly grown and values the family he still has.
Sofina is defeated, her undead army destroyed, and Forge’s corruption exposed.
Ending
Edgin reunites with Kira, rebuilding their relationship honestly. The group remains together—not just as thieves, but as heroes.
The film ends with humor and warmth, leaving room for future adventures.
